Francisco Rafart

Francisco Rafart is a composer and Chapman Stick player from Santiago de Chile (1985) living in Boston, MA. Francisco’s composition work encompasses traditional instrumental ensembles and electronic rock material published through his solo project Rafart.

He started his composition studies in 2005 at P. Universidad Católica de Chile with Aliocha Solovera. During those formative years, he worked on instrumental scores in an academic setup. Most of the scores in this catalog are from this period. As he moved outside academia, he gradually shifted his focus towards popular music, the Chapman Stick, and music technology. To this date, he has multiple albums and EPs with the Rafart project, recording for it with performers worldwide.

In 2015 he got his Masters Degree in Music Production and Technology from Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain. Shortly after, he moved to the US (Austin, TX and later Boston, MA) to gain music tech experience at Livid Instruments, Berklee College of Music / IDEO, Sofar Sounds, and as a freelance audio producer.

As a composer and performer, he has participated in the III Luis Advis Composition Contest (Chile 2007), I & II International Chapman Stick Festival (Santiago, Chile 2006-2007), Prismas New Music Festival (Santiago, Chile - 2009), Ceibo New Music Festival (Buenos Aires, Argentina - 2011), Forum Nueva Música (Córdoba, Argentina - 2013), TEDx Berklee Valencia (Spain, 2014), EmTech MIT Press Review (Valencia, Spain 2014), Volumens Fest (Valencia, Spain 2015), Vox Festival (Valencia, Spain - 2015), Calakmul Fest (Yucatán, Mexico - 2015), and Darmstadt New Music courses (Germany- 2016). In 2020 he obtained the Live Arts Boston Grant from The Boston Foundation for The Great Refusal, an audiovisual music experience.
