Cohort 1 was comprised of 10 composers (5 strings, 5 choral) participating during the 2023-24 season. For Cohort 2, we will select up to 14 composers (7 strings, 7 choral). Educators will read their works the ACDA and ASTA 2025 conferences, with partner schools presenting concert premieres.

All participating composers will show:

    1. The participating school educator will be available to talk through the piece before the workshop, provide guidance for the students during the workshopping process, and a post-workshop meeting.

  5. Compensation for project participation and the creation of the new work is $2500.00.

GENERAL GUIDELINES are as follows:

  • Composers will be selected in part based on geographic diversity. We will use the regional areas designated by ACDA to help us ensure representation across the United States.

    • Your resume or cv (3 page limit, PDF format)

    • Your headshot in PNG or JPG format (3x5 in, min 300 dpi)

    • Two work samples for the ensemble you are applying to write for: strings or choral.

      • Compositions must be at least 3 minutes in duration.

      • Scores must be in PDF format.

      • Audio samples must be in MP3 format.

        • Midi renderings are welcome. Represent your piece in the best possible light, but know that we judge the musical composition itself, not the quality of the recording.

      • REMOVE YOUR NAME everywhere it appears. This includes on the score itself and the files names for both the score and the recording. Both should be labeled with the title only. Also mask dedications, copyright, etc.

  • Be prepared to type into the form (or copy/paste):
